FREO – 2015 - Present
David Chitty played a pivotal role in the creation and launch of Freo.Social, a dynamic live music and community venue in Fremantle’s historic Artillery Drill Hall. As co-founder and director of Triple-1-Three, the group behind Otherside Brewing Co., Chitty brought a vision to transform the 1895 heritage-listed building and previous Fly By Night venue into a space that captured the energy of a music festival and delivered it in a permanent, community-focused venue.
Drawing on his deep background in music and cultural events, Chitty led the multi-million-dollar redevelopment from 2015, ensuring the hall’s character was preserved while introducing state-of-the-art infrastructure. He worked with architects and acoustic designers to create a venue that balanced heritage and innovation, including a Main Hall with a capacity of up to 900 and sound design informed by Tame Impala’s touring team.
Freo.Social officially opened in March 2019 and has since become a cornerstone of Fremantle’s music community. The venue features the “Otherside Brewshed” microbrewery, flexible outdoor social spaces, and a diverse event program ranging from live gigs and comedy to daytime DJ sessions and community markets.
Chitty’s leadership ensured Freo.Social was more than a performance space it was a cultural precinct designed to welcome families, artists, and music lovers alike. His vision helped reinvigorate the local music scene and brought new life to a cherished Fremantle landmark, blending history with a bold, contemporary experience.
